Where to Take the Little Squirts to Cool Off this Summer

When you come to New Orleans on vacation, a hotel with a fabulous pool is key. See some of our favorites here. But if your kids are the kind who would be just as happy staying in their bathing suits 24/7, here are some wet and wild options not far from your hotel.

Cool Zoo at Audubon Zoo

Fly down a ginormous alligator water slide! Get drenched by spider monkey soakers and water-spitting snakes! Try to dodge jumping water spouts! Take a seven-minute round trip around Gator Run, a 750-foot lazy river with two sand beaches, two water curtains and four water cannons and jumping jets! With three different splash zones (one area specifically for little kids), Cool Zoo at Audubon Zoo is where it’s at in New Orleans in the summertime. It’s open 7 days a week through August 4 and on weekends through September 2. Learn more.

Splash Pad at Lafreniere Park in Metairie

Have kids 10 or under? Head to Lafreniere Park, just 15 minutes from the French Quarter. Their Splash Pad sprays more than 135 gallons of water per minute over a 4,000 square feet of surface. That’s a lot of water and a lot of fun! The park has 13 water features (five above ground, five in-ground and three water cannons.) It is open daily from May 25 through August 9 and weekends only from August 16-September 28. The cost is $5 per person for 90 minutes (cash only). Learn more.

Ormond Spray Park in Destrehan

Looking for something to do before you go get snoballs? We have just the thing! Your kids will have a blast as the Ormond Spray Park at 1901 Ormond Boulevard. The park is open from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays in the summer (they’re closed for maintenance on Mondays). Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and children 62 inches or under are allowed entry. Learn more.

Coming Soon: City Splash

A new a four-acre water park is in the works at City Park. Learn more.
